Some of the symptoms are cough, running nose, headache, itchy throat, and body pain. While conventional medicines might provide some relief here are some effective home remedies to get respite from cold without any side effects.
- Stay hydrated – Drink lots and lots of water. In addition to the normal 2 liters of water per day, you should drink few more additional glasses of water when you are suffering from cold or fever. Warm water should be given preference over normal drinking water while dealing with the cold. Also, try drinking fruit juice, herbal tea, and warm lemon water with honey. Avoid consuming coffee and alcohol as it can make your throat dehydration worse.
- Soothe your sore throat – Gargling is an age-old formula for soothing your sore throat. Mix salt, sage, apple cider vinegar with warm water and gargle. This saline solution extracts the extra fluid from the inflamed tissues in your throat and removes irritants like fungi and bacteria. Sage leaves not only remove the extra fluid, but also help prevent the bacteria. Make sure that you are not using excessive salt while gargling as it will draw more water, making your throat more dry and irritated.
- Use Hydrogen Peroxide – Early use of hydrogen peroxide is the best way to combat cold. Place a few drops of hydrogen peroxide into each ear and wait until the bubbling subsides. Repeat this process every few hours until you get relief. Not only does it help fight the cold, but it is also an effective remedy for flu, ear infection, and sinus infection.
